It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood

Your next-door neighbor is not a man; he is an environment. He is the barking of a dog; he is the noise of a piano; he is a dispute about a party wall; he is drains that are worse than yours, or roses that are better than yours.Chesterton, Gilbert K.

I’m trying really hard to embrace this new chapter in our lives; as we pack up our first house together, the one we made a home, became man and wife, and started a family.  It’s been harder than I’d expected it to be–seeing past the seemingly endless tasks of packing, working, and caring for my infant has been hard.  I know I’m excited and it will be a positive step for our futures but I’m still sad about it.  I never thought I’d grow so attached to a house  er, a home.  A neighborhood really.  We love it here, and it will be really hard to say good-bye.  (Even if it is only a twenty minute drive from our new home.)

There is something about an established neighborhood with all walks of life in it.  It’s just so beautiful and homey, and our neighborhood has been welcoming too.   I can only hope to find such beauty at our new house.  We went for a walk the other night, and I brought my camera along.  It’s hard sometimes to remember to take pictures ‘just because’ in the bustle of life.  Here’s a glimpse of our neighborhood.

“To love our neighbor as ourselves is such a truth for regulating human society, that by that alone one might determine all the cases in social morality.” John Locke
