The Morning Yawn

“It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold:  when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.”  ~Charles Dickens

It’s a funny concept–the idea of going stir crazy and the, gotta-take-advantage-of-it while I can attitude that comes in hand with the first days of sun after the grey skies of winter decide to move on for now.   The appreciation that rolls over us like a tidal-wave for the sun has decided to grace us once again, and the idea that mother nature again has stayed true to the midwest region by bringing on yet another season full of promises, flip-flops, flowers, and glorious sun.

Springtime is the land awakening.  The March winds are the morning yawn.

There’s little we truly appreciate in this way, on a yearly basis.  Those epiphanies where we say, “man, I am truly blessed.” The renewal as constant as the changing seasons makes us aware of continued life and new days ahead…it’s a beautiful thing.

It’s a step towards another winter though, really, another day towards another season, that brings us back to days like today.

No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow.  ~Proverb

I love hearing the children’s feet on the sidewalks of my neighborhood, and my boisterous neighbor outside screaming “HI!” to everyone that drives by whom she knows.  I like to imagine the garden gnomes yawning a season-long yawn, and think how happy these buds must be to finally be able to see.  I appreciate the brown earthy tones that overwhelm the ground but seek the pops of color and remember how vibrant they’ll be when adorned with the green grass and rainbow blooms that are to come.

Every spring is the only spring – a perpetual astonishment.  ~Ellis Peters

And I like to chuckle at the irony of my excitement, because alas, spring will come again.
